Sebastian Trägner – better known as Traegi – has a passion for hats, is tattooed all over, and loves coffee more than almost anything. He has traveled the world both as a model and a photographer; he has been to most of Europe, China, America, and North Africa, before he decided to settle in Cologne, Germany. Our editor Miriam met the likable 33-year-old in Cologne in his favorite café “Heilandt,” to discuss life, photography, social media, and his sources of inspiration.
Why don’t you start by introducing yourself to our readers?
Hey Hey, I’m Sebastian, 33 years old and I live in beautiful Cologne.
Why did you decide to join Instagram and where does your account name come from?
Traegi has been my nickname ever since my days as teenager. My Instagram account developed over time; honestly, I never planned on doing something „big“ with it, I didn’t have a plan at all. It was just nice-to-have and fun to play around with. By now, it has become my daily business, while still being fun! I love the positive feedback and that I can inspire my followers with my imagery.
Why and when did you start to publish on your own blog? What motivated you to create your own website?
That was, among other things, a business decision. I still upload to Instagram on a daily basis but on my blog, I like to add short and selected texts and pictures to my personal blog. My blog traegi.com is still rather new; I teach myself how to do it while I do it. Just try and see what comes of it.
Which blogs and social media accounts inspire you, who do you follow?
I have to confess that I don’t really follow blogs. I do like pictures with powerful colors, a nice Bokeh, and lifestyle stories that don’t post all the time. A good example would be @agameoftones, as well as the account of my good friend @marcokd.
“If I could wish for a shoot with anybody, it would’ve to be Kate Moss, no competition.”Sebastian Trägner
What do you do besides social media?
I work for Herr von Eden in Cologne, a fashion label inspired by the period of between the 20s and 60s, leaning towards the dandy look. And I love to take pictures!
On that note, you don’t only work in front of the camera but you are also a photographer yourself. Who would you like to shoot with someday?
Ideally, it would be someone who doesn’t think they’re photogenic at all. I love a challenge and it’s always a great moment when these persons see the results and are super surprised and happy with the outcome. If I could wish for a shooting with anybody, it would definitely have to be Kate Moss.
Do you perceive yourself as an influencer or as a photographer?
Do I get to pick? Well, then photographer, the word influencer somehow has a negative connotation nowadays. Looking at my social media reach, however, I probably am an influencer. Still, I see myself more as somebody who just enjoys life, sitting in a small café in Cologne and having a cappuccino.
Can you tell us about your favorite camera equipment for photo shoots?
That would be my Fujifilm XT20 with the Fujinon 35mm 1.4 lens. That’s sexy!
How do you edit your pictures?
If it has to be quick, I just upload the pictures to my phone and edit them with VSCO. If I have more time, I like to use Lightroom and Photoshop.
