Pinterest is still one of the underrated social media platforms – at the same time, the visual discovery machine continues to develop very well.

According to the current quarterly results, Pinterest has grown by 22 million users in the last three months. Compared to the previous year, Pinterest grew by 71 million users. However, the platform is not only relevant in the USA. Over 50% of active users are living outside the USA. If we take a look at our direct surroundings, then we have Switzerland and Austria with over 1 million users each, and Germany with over 7 million which infers that users are also very active in Germany. However, Pinterest does not see itself as a social network, but as a discovery platform:

Pinterest is the visual discovery engine. Our mission is to bring everyone the inspiration to create a life they love.

The visual search engine

If you want your users to discover content, one of the best ways to do that is by doing a concrete search. Pinterest handles this core element very well. Every month more than 2 billion searches are made. Especially for brands, Pinterest can be one of the most relevant platforms, because it is the discovery of new content and inspiration that is most important to users. 77% of active users have already discovered new products or brands on Pinterest. 97% of the 1,000 most popular search queries have no direct brand reference, which in turn allows a wide range of opportunities for positioning products and brands.

Is Pinterest something for me, too??

Is my target group also present on Pinterest? Of course, as with almost all networks, Pinterest is a meeting place for all target groups. Nevertheless, Pinterest is used actively by female users. 70% of the users are female, and 72% are between 18 and 44 years old.

The fact that there is still a lot of untapped potential here can be seen not only in the number of users but also in the spending on advertisements. Pinterest ads were introduced in 2014 and have been available in Germany since the beginning of this year. However, Pinterest earns its advertising revenues almost entirely in the USA, which is why there is still a lot to be done internationally.

Be brave

We can only recommend every company to take a close look at the platform. If we have aroused your interest, if you want to join Pinterest or if you want us to work together on campaigns, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We would like to rock the platform together with you.
