The last 14 days have caused a huge change in the Instagram account thesundaychapter and we could see the nearly impossible happen. The Australian fashion blogger Angela started blogging about four years ago and managed to build up a loyal community of 25k followers. But since the 4th march, something changed and the number of her followers has increased ever since – over 465k new fans started following her during the last three weeks. Her key to success? A simple but great idea, that was picked up by some major players in the influencer space like Leonie Hanne from OhhCouture – a Q & A template. We’re talking about influencers with over eleven million followers who shared her templates in their stories. The result? Viral success. We think her path is really exciting and contacted Angela to talk with her about her creative idea and the success she gained.
We are so happy that you got some time for us. To start things off, just tell us a bit more about you.
My name is Angela and I was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia where I still reside.
When and why did you decide to start your own blog?
The Sunday Chapter is a travel, fashion and lifestyle blog that I started nearly five years ago with a goal to instil a spark of inspiration into your everyday life. I would spend hours every day reading blogs (mostly beauty and fashion reviews) and I became completely immersed in the blogging world. At the same time, I had just finished my studies in PR and was feeling incredibly lost. I created my blog as an escape to everyday life and to document the things I love; whether it be a new outfit, a latest lipstick obsession, or ticking somewhere off my bucket list.
Can you tell us a bit more about what happened in the last couple of weeks?
I created Q&A style templates that were filled out and posted to Instagram Stories. They soon went viral being shared by hundreds of thousands!
Would you’ve ever expect that the templates would have such a massive effect?
No, not at all! I thought it would be a fun way to connect with my audience and learn more about them – but I never thought it would blow up the way it did.
What do you think, what is it about the templates that they gained so much interest?
Despite a lot of people wanting to connect with their audience, sometimes it’s hard to share things about yourself on Instagram. It’s a very filtered social media space. I think templates gave people a fun and lighthearted way to get to know each other.
What impact did social media have on your career before all of this happened?
I was a full-time blogger and content creator so social media was a huge part of my job!
And did you already notice any change from the massive attention?
I’ve been able to work with many brands I’ve loved for years and connect with some of my favourite bloggers.
How do you handle your success via Instagram?
It’s exciting but very overwhelming. There’s a lot of pressure that comes with it and it’s easy to get caught up in it all. I’ve realised it’s very important to take breaks and spend time offline & away from technology.
Is your main focus still on your blog? Or did you change that?
My main focus has shifted to Instagram, but over the next year I’m trying to refocus my efforts towards the blog and providing more content over there.
Can you tell us more about your blog, what are the topics you’re trying to focus on?
My main topics are fashion, travel and lifestyle, which includes sub-topics of wellness and food.
Which channels do you use except Instagram?
I use Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter and hopefully Youtube soon!
Can you give us some advice regarding Instagram, what did you learn over the years?
Patience and consistency is everything. I never miss a day of posting (whether it be on instagram or stories) and my audience knows they can rely on me for content.
Last but not least, what are your plans for the next months, any trips we can look forward to?
I’m off to Bali in a few weeks and then I have some other exciting travel plans in the works for later in the year!
We are very impressed by the viral success of the hardworking young Australian and we will follow her development closely. Follow Angela on her interesting path and get inspired by her daily updates.
